The S20K550 is a through-hole varistor (Voltage Dependent Resistor or VDR) designed to protect electronic circuits from voltage spikes and surges by clamping excessive voltage to safe levels. It is particularly useful in protecting sensitive components from transient voltage events, such as lightning strikes or power surges.

• Varistor Voltage: Nominal varistor voltage of 550V, which means it starts to clamp the voltage at around this value.
• Maximum Continuous Voltage (AC/DC):

• Energy Absorption Capability: Can absorb significant energy (up to 130J) during transient events without damage, helping to protect downstream components.
• Clamping Voltage: Around 900V at a 50A current, which is the voltage at which the varistor starts to limit the voltage.
