The MAX7219/MAX7221 are small, serial input/output common-cathode display drivers that connect microprocessors (Ps) to bar-graph displays, 64 individual LED displays, or 7-segment numeric LED displays with up to 8 digits. A BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8x8 static RAM that saves every digit are all included on the device. To set the segment current for all LEDs, just one external resistor is needed. The MAX7221 incorporates slewrate-limited segment drivers to lower EMI and is compatible with SPITM, QSPITM, and MICROWIRETM.
